Lazarus is a project developed under the direction of Daniel Comerci during his final year at the Comics School of Reggio Emilia.
In a dystopian future, a fungal epidemic breaks out in a maximum security prison on planet Earth and starts infecting prisoners and prison guards. In a burst of collective madness, society sees fit to send the prisoners to a disused space station to test the long-term effects of the fungus and to study life in a colony in Earth orbit.
The prisoners form a new society and reorganise themselves, defining new laws and codes for peaceful coexistence, aware that their lives and those of the children born in the colony (who have inherited the fungus) are too short to be wasted in pointless quarrels, as is the case on Earth.
